CGPA to Percentage Calculator

Convert your CGPA to percentage using the official formula for your university. Different universities use different multipliers — select the right one for accurate results.

How it works

Indian universities award CGPA on a 10-point scale but express results as percentages for job applications, further studies, and official documents. The conversion formula is specified by each university. UGC recommends ×9.5; VTU, Anna, and JNTU use ×10; Mumbai University has its own formula.

Formula

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5 (UGC standard)

Multiply your CGPA by the multiplier used by your university. Different universities have officially specified different multipliers.

Worked example

CGPA 8.2 under UGC standard

CGPA:
8.2
System:
UGC / AICTE (×9.5)

Percentage = 8.2 × 9.5 = 77.90%

CGPA 7.5 under VTU

CGPA:
7.5
System:
VTU / Anna / JNTU (×10)

Percentage = 7.5 × 10 = 75.00%

Limitations

The formulas shown are the most common, but some universities use custom formulas. Always verify with your university's official marksheet or gazette notification.

Frequently asked questions

Why do different universities use different multipliers?

There is no single national standard for converting CGPA to percentage. The UGC recommends ×9.5, but each university is free to specify its own conversion. Always check your university's official guidelines.

Is a CGPA of 7 equivalent to 70%?

Under the UGC standard, 7 × 9.5 = 66.5%, not 70%. Under VTU/Anna, 7 × 10 = 70%. The multiplier matters.

Do employers accept CGPA directly?

Many employers accept CGPA directly for screening (e.g., >7.0 CGPA). When a percentage cutoff is stated, you need to convert — use your university's official method.

What if my CGPA is on a 4-point (US) scale?

This calculator is for the 10-point scale used by most Indian universities. For 4-point GPA conversions, you need a different calculator.
